I got this idea when I was joining workshop for English teachers held by LAPIS-ELTIS in Surabaya, 2009. The workshop was held by IAIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya in collaboration with IALF Australia.
Teachers want to teach efficiently in the classroom. Efficient means the aims of learning is reached and done well. How to do that. Would you please, follow the following tips!
First, make preparation well. Prepare everything before come into the classroom e.g. Lesson Plan, media.
Second, use minimal pair in the classroom. Divide students into several group or ask them to work in pair.
Third, give clear instruction. Every task should have clear instruction e.g. listen and fill the gap, read and choose the correct answer. Tell the instruction in English. If students seem confused with the instruction, write down on the board and translate it.
Fourth, give timing every set the classroom task e.g. Choose the correct answer based on the text in five minutes.
Fifth, reduce Teacher Talking Time (TTT), increase Students Talking Time (STT). Avoid to give much instruction during the learning process. Just monitor and help students when they need it.
Sixth, conclude the lesson by the end of the learning process.
Seventh, give feedback before leaving the classroom.
