How To Use English When Teaching Young Foreign Language Learners

Teaching English to young foreign language learners are not as easy as teaching English as a first or second language. It needs various technique and simple English language.

Children have their own world and simple language. They will not understand when adult people talk in complicated language.

Teachers should pay attention to this. They need to learn how children grow with the language. If teachers make them confused, then they will be afraid or lack of motivation to learn.

Here are some tips to use English when teaching young foreign language learners:
  1. Speak up slowly and clearly.
  2. Use simple vocabulary items.
  3. Give clear instruction.
  4. Avoid ambiguity when giving instruction. If you ask them to sit down, let them sit first before you ask the other instructions.
  5. Avoid to much verbal language.
  6. Use gesture if they don't understand what you mean.
