Categorizing strategy is a strategy to teach vocabulary items which separates the list of vocabulary into some categories. Teacher may use this strategy as the review of vocabulary items have been learnt by the students. The steps to teach vocabulary items are in the following:
1. Prepare some words have been learnt in three different categories. Limit the 5 words for each categories.
Example:
- AIR
- TREE
- STOMACH
- AIRPORT
- HARBOUR
- ARM
- BUS STATION
- FINGER
- LAND
- WIND
- RAILWAY STATION
- WRIST
- POST OFFICE
- CLOUD
- KNEE
2. Ask students to put the words above into the correct table below!
| Public Places | Part of Body | Nature |
3. Give students 5-10 minutes to complete the task. It's better to divide them into several groupworks.
Note: Teacher's role in this strategy just monitor the activity. After the students have completed the task, the teacher may check through the class. After that the teacher lead the pronunciation practice.
