How To Teach Speaking in Role Play

Role Play is technique teacher usually use to teach speaking in the classroom. It's a technique manipulating and bringing real conversation into the teaching process. 

How to teach speaking in Role Play? Here is an example. You may change the topic and material needed in the process.  

Procedure:
1. Copy and cut the following cards  
2. Divide students into two groups.
3. Give students the cards so that Group 1 has card A and group 2 has card B.
4. Give 10 minutes to do an interview.
5. After finishing the interview, change the role, group 1 gets card B, and group 2 gets card A. 
6. Give students time to report in written form.

    Cards for Role Play
    Student A
    You were an actor/actress. You played in some movies. They were mostly horor movie. You had won a golden globe as the best actor/actress. You had a bad experience seeing a ghost. After seeing the ghost you’d been fainted for hours.

    Student A
    You were a doctor. You worked at the biggest hospital in your city. You won the most favourite doctor award last year. You had a bad experience giving wrong injection. The wrong injection made the man died.

    Student B
    • Ask his/her name
    • Ask what his/her job is
    • Ask why he/she likes his/her current job.
    • Ask what achievement he/she has got
    • Ask about his/her unforgetable experience.
    Student B
    • Ask his/her name
    • Ask what his/her job is
    • Ask why he/she likes his/her current job
    • Ask what achievement he/she has got
    • Ask about his/her unforgetable experience.
